TLAppleCanyonThe fact that Trailmen from Immanuel’s Trail Life USA Troop 0412 awoke to a brisk 38 degree morning on Saturday didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of this young troop for their first campout in Lena, IL. They just made a fire and started their day. In fact, the entire campout was a success. Hiking at Apple River Canyon State Park, a Jumbo Jumper, hiking, splitting wood with an ax, more campfires, hot dogs over the fire, and more activities rounded out their weekend.

“I feel the Trailmen had a fantastic weekend. For some of the boys, this was the first time using an axe, hatchet, and saw. It was great watching them cook their own food over a fire made with the wood that they split. I know this gives them a sense of pride and ownership, and that turns to confidence. The weather could not have been better for our hike in the Apple River canyon,” said Troopmaster Jonathon Bedell.

Trail Life is open to anyone in the community who is looking for an outdoor adventure program to learn about camping, canoeing, orienteering, rock climbing, personal growth development, and so much more.
