A Note from Elaine Schmitt and Carol Hajkaluk:

DSC00775The weather may have been the warmest ever at the Special Olympics track and field event Sunday Sunday, April 17. Approximately 45 Immanuel family, staff and friends volunteered in the hospitality tent setting up tables, preparing trays of healthy snacks, serving food, and greeting athletes and their families and friends. Some ran “Olympic Town” which we reintroduced this year and offered yard games for the athletes and their families to play.

The athletes worked and trained hard to do their best and we thank you for taking time to encourage, cheer them on, and congratulate them on their medals and ribbons. Your kindness goes a long way in making them feel special. Thanks to all who donated time, food and money to purchase supplies, and most of all for your prayers. Thanks to Thrivent for the generous monetary donation and to Paul Nicholson for the donation of Immanuel water bottles, sun glasses, and hand sanitizer. The giveaways were fun and big hits! We hope that volunteering in whatever capacity was a unique and memorable experience for you.

Congratulations to Immanuel member Faith DiPaolo who won a GOLD medal in the softball throw. She also ran the 50 meter run and received a special ribbon. Faith is on the Blue Jays, District 15’s Special Olympics team, who brought home the GOLD medal from the Special Olympics Illinois’ State Basketball Tournament. Way to go Faith!!

Congratulations also to Immanuel’s Nicole Bischoff, a member of the CCSD 15 Special Olympics soccer team (the “Blue Jays”) who competed in the soccer team qualifier on Sunday April 17th. The team won both of their games and as a result they won a Gold medal! Way to go Nicole!

Both girls will compete in the Special Olympics Illinois State Summer Games in Bloomington-Normal in June.

May God bless you all for your servant hearts!
