On Sunday, April 17th, Special Olympics Illinois Area 18 (Northwest Suburban Chicago) will hold its Annual Spring Games –Track and Field Competition. The Area 18 Spring Games consists of over 700 Athletes, 1200 Volunteers and nearly 3000 spectators, all living within the Northwest Suburbs.
Besides competing in the events, the athletes also look forward to visiting the Hospitality Tent where they are treated to healthy snacks and a big smile! This year will mark the 21st year that Immanuel Lutheran Church and School has sponsored the Hospitality Tent. Since 1995 our students and adult volunteers have helped make this a fun and memorable experience for the Special Olympic athletes. In turn, we have been blessed by participating as volunteers. We hope that many who have helped in the past, will attend again this year, and that many new volunteers will join in. The joy of serving these athletes and celebrating their successes will be an experience that you will never forget! Learn more…
Help is needed in three areas:
- Food Donation: We need granola bars, oranges, apples, carrots, peppers, celery, cauliflower and broccoli. Granola bars will be collected all month. Look for a collection bin as you enter the school. Please bring your fresh food donations to the school office beginning Wednesday April 13th. Food pick-ups will be made once a day during that week.
- Cash Donation: If you are unable to make a food donation a cash or check donation will help to purchase the snacks.
- Volunteers to set-up and serve the day of the event: We need 35-45 students and adults to work at the Hospitality Tent throughout the day of competition. There are three shifts to choose from: 7:30-10:00; 10:00-12:00; 12:00-2:00. Sign-up / Permission forms are available online or in the school or church office or see Elaine and Carol in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, April 3 and Sunday, April 10.
The event will be held at Prospect High School @.801 West Kensington in Mount Prospect (NW Hwy east to Kensington, turn left to school). If you have any questions, please contact Elaine Schmitt or Carol Hajkaluk via the church office: 847-359-1549 or email@example.com. Thank you!
