One Tuesday in late June, 30 people from Immanuel went to Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) in Schaumburg to help assemble and pack “Manna Paks” that will be delivered to Uganda. The warehouse was filled with well-over 50 people in total who came with willing hearts to serve others that summer evening.
The leaders of FMSC expressed their gratitude for such a large group, as they typically struggle with having enough volunteers every night throughout the summer months.
Our Immanuel team was very dynamic and filled with great energy and joyful hearts. Our team, as well as the whole group, was comprised of people from many age groups. This provided a great inter-generational opportunity to serve together. After hearing initial instructions about the process of our work, we all went to our assigned stations and began filling the Manna Paks, which include veggies, vitamins, soy, and rice.
After each box of 36 Paks was completed, the group would yell out a cheer. This cheer was an indicator for the warehouse team to pick up the box, and complete the packaging and preparation for shipment. During our time of work, cheerful and fun music filled the warehouse, providing a positive and fun work environment. After nearly an hour of filling and packaging, our work was done.
After clean up, everyone assembled by the pallet of completed boxes and we prayed over the meals that we assembled. Before we left, the folks at FMSC tallied up our work to share with us what we accomplished. In total we packed 85 boxes of food, which converts into 18,360 meals. These meals are enough to feed 50 children for one year totaling a cost of $4039.30. Who would have ever thought that by giving an hour and half of your time, that you could be part of something so significant?
If you were hoping to help out before but were unable to do so, there is no need to worry, because we are going two more times this summer to bring more folks to help at Feed My Starving Children. And if you went with us last time, please come again!
We will be going again on Thursday, July 30th and also on Thursday, August 20th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. So make sure to register early to ensure your spot. This is a great opportunity for you to bring your family, or some friends, to enjoy a great evening of helping children around the world. Sign up today!
